Nick is a senior front-end software engineer and designer. He began his career working as a Flash developer and earned himself a SXSW Web Award for his personal portfolio in 2004 just after finishing high school. Since then, Nick has been working with and leading Agile software development teams at organizations big and small. Recently, Nick was the lead front-end engineer for Finastra's Barometer compliance platform. He is currently the lead front-end engineer for a fintech startup in Toronto called Olive, where he oversees the implementation of all UI elements and front-end build systems and libraries.
In addition to his software development expertise, Nick is also a certified privacy professional (CIPP/C) and a licensed privacy lawyer. Nick has extensive experience leading privacy-related change management initiatives at large organizations and served as Hootsuite's Product & Privacy Counsel from 2017-2018, where he planned and led the company's data protection strategy and GDPR compliance efforts.
Nick graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2011. He received several awards there, including prizes for the highest marks in Telecommunications and Internet Law. Nick was called to the Ontario bar in 2012 and practiced as a litigation associate at a prominent Bay Street law firm for a number of years before leaving to pursue a career at the intersection of software development and data protection.
